Notes to a seven year old…
When you become bigger, know that it is the little things that are precious. Remember that walk in the park, with a full moon that refuses to leave. Hold on to the smell of the daily bed time story, when the hugs are warmer in winter.
When you become stronger, be the toughest rock with the kindest heart. Know that there is a vast and infinitely deep magical blue lake of strength under every rock. The deeper you go, and sometimes will, you always come out stronger.
When you become richer, know that it is not just measured in dollars or cents. It is also measured in the questions you ask, the friends you make and the experiences you collect. Don’t get me wrong. Money makes a lot of sense. Remember that you always are that curious little girl who wondered why we do not fall off the earth or how the world knew that you are actually seven.
When you see yourself running faster, know that everyone is running their own race. Yes, even Zoe. Be better that yourself, in every possible way. Rest, slow down and sprint as needed and remember two things 1) Offer to pick up a fellow runner who has fallen down 2) Never forget that runner who tripped you.
and lastly, when you see yourselves having to chose, put family first.
